Ubisoft announced today that Operation Brutal Swarm, the third season of Rainbow Six Siege’s Year 7, is now available. A new operator is joining, as well as a new map, and some more gameplay improvements. Until September 8, players have the chance to play Rainbow Six Siege for free on PlayStation and PC.
The new attacker is called Grim. He is a high speed, low health operator. His gadget is called the Kawan Hive Launcher and fires a projectile that deploys a canister on the floor. This canister release nanobots into the air. Defenders who come into contact with this swarm will have their position revealed until the bots run out of battery.
Stadium, a map that has been considered a fan-favorite, is back and will become a permanent addition. It will have a new name (Stadium Bravo). The map is set to challenge “both teams to develop new strategies due to the map’s unique layout,” alongside things like indestructible glass.
In terms of gameplay fixes, the recoil system has been overhauled, and intensity increases during sustained bursts of fire. The change to the recoil system is exclusive to PC players, but console players will have dedicated recoil updates for controllers specifically.
There are now more weapon attachment options and the damage penalty for suppressor attachments has been removed.
In addition to Grim, there are a few more updates listed below:
- EMP grenades
- Phase 2 of the Reputation system (new penalty for abusive chat)
- Report cheaters in Match Replay viewer
- New Map Ban phase includes five maps and updates to tactical map
Finally, the Battle Pass perk that gives players 10% discounts on shop items is back. The perk is also available for future Battle Passes as well. There will also be a new Buy For A Friend Battle Pass Program, which lets players buy the Battle Pass for others.
