Mike Frazzini, head of Amazon Games, has stepped down from his role to “focus on his family.” Frazzini was an integral role in growing the studio and delivering games like New World and Lost Ark–both of which have been fairly popular in the gaming world.
Amazon spokesman Ryan Jones said in a statement:
“Mike was there at the beginning of Amazon Games, and his leadership and perseverance helped build the games business from the ground up. Our recent successes with New World and Lost Ark are the result of the long-term, customer-focused vision for games he helped establish. We are very grateful for all his contributions, and wish Mike the very best.”
Mike Frazzini began working at Amazon.com in 2004 in the books section. Before being brought on to start Amazon Games, Frazzini had never worked on making a game before. Reports have allegedly stated that Frazzini would frequently ignore advice from experienced game developers. A former manager at Amazon Games said that Frazzini’s lack of prior experience was a problem.
Although New World and Lost Ark were both well-received titles, other Amazon Games did not see the same success. The Grand Tour was released back in 2019, but was pulled off of shelves in a year. Crucible was another title that did not see the light of day after being shut down in 2020.
