HBO Max has released the first episode of House of the Dragon for free over on YouTube, letting anyone watch it without having to spend money at all. This comes amid the release of Amazon’s Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power. It seems like the two shows have found themselves in a bit of a head-to-head competition, seeing as both follow the classic epic fantasy style of story-telling.
As many have stated, it does look to be like HBO is trying to keep some attention off of Amazon’s Lord of the Rings by giving more people the chance to watch House of the Dragon. HBO saw its biggest premiere yet with House of the Dragon as over 25 million have tuned in so far just to watch the Game of Thrones spinoff.
Amazon’s The Lord of the Rings prequel had a budget of over $500 million with $250 million on top of that just to obtain the license to produce the show in the first place. It’s a major budget, and one of the most expensive TV shows out there. Plus, The Rings of Power is set to be five seasons long.
Still, you can tune in to watch House of the Dragon now on YouTube and decide for yourself which of the two is best. House of the Dragon’s first episode is age restricted however, and could potentially be region-locked to territories where HBO Max is available.
