Google TV launched about two years ago, and Google has been at work adding new features to the platform, including iOS support. However, many users complained about the performance of the service. Google’s finally fixing that though.
Google says a new CPU and cache management optimization will reduce the time it takes for the “For you” tab to load when starting up. Also, navigating within a tab and switching between multiple tabs should feel more responsive after the update. A faster Live Tab will let users see less of the Google TV loading animation. Google says that switching to a kids profile will take less time.
One of the biggest improvements that Google is promising is that the software will use less RAM, which will lead to a smoother viewing experience.
Google TV is also getting storage enhancements in the latest update. The “Free up storage” option in the Settings menu will make clearing the cache easier and it will let you uninstall apps that you don’t use. The feature is currently available on Chromecast with Google TV and it’s coming to smart TVs soon.
Users who previously experienced many errors when attempting to install new apps should see less of them with the new update. There’s also a new automated process that will free up space on the device so you can install more apps.
The new updates are currently rolling out to users, so keep watching out for them.
