Tesla CEO Elon Musk sent out a Tweet earlier today challenging Vladimir Putin to a one-on-one fight. In the Tweet, he wrote “I hereby challenge Vladimir Putin to single combat. Stakes are Ukraine.” Subsequently, he Tweeted in Cyrillic script “Do you agree to this fight?”
The statement was responded to by the head of the Russian space agency, Dimitry Rogozin. He reportedly had spiteful words exchanged with Musk before, but in the latest Tweet, he said “You, little devil, are still young. Compete with me weakling. It would only be a waste of time. Overtake my brother first.” Rogozin was quoting an 1800s Russian Poem “The Tale of the Priest and of His Workman Balda.” The poem refers to a lazy priest who hires a cheap laborer; however, the cheap laborer drives the priest mad by the end of the poem.
Musk received praise from the mayor of Kyiv, Vitali Klitschko and Ukraine’s Vice Prime Minister Mykhailo Fedorov. Fedorov Tweeted “I am sure that Elon Musk can send Putin to Jupter.” He followed that Tweet up to a website taking donations to “Send Putin to Jupiter.”
In early March, Musk’s internet company, Starlink, arrived in Ukraine. The move allowed for Ukrainians to receive internet access amid the Russian invasion. The move earned him a thanks from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
