Hercules is one of the classic Disney movies that we all know and love, and it’s going to be getting a live-action adaptation. Led by Joe and Anthony Russo (MCU), it looks like the remake will be getting a bit of a modern inspiration from TikTok.
In an interview with Variety, The Russo brothers acknowledged that some of the recent Disney remakes have been criticized, especially in regards to how little they try to change from the original stories and films. The brothers decided to take a “more experimental” route for the Hercules remake, however.
“Audiences today have been trained by TikTok, right? What is their expectation of what that musical looks and feels like? That can be a lot of fun and help us push the boundaries a little bit on how you execute a modern musical,” Joe Russo explained.
The remake will also be bringing director Guy Ritchie on board, who is also trying to take a bit of a different spin on the 90s animated movie.
Back in July, Joe Russo said the remake for Hercules would “pay homage to the original with a more modern spin on it.” The brothers explained that the original was a “funny” title and wanted to recapture the essence of that spirit.
Several classic Disney movies have since been remade into live action films, including Beauty and the Beast, The Lion King, Cinderella, and Aladdin. However, much of them stuck to the original style and didn’t approach the story in the way the Russo brothers are suggesting for their adaptation.
We have yet to see what’s next for the Hercules movie, but you can bet that The DZSH Group will be there to talk about it!
