Destiny 2‘s Season of Plunder just got a community event that started on Tuesday and was supposed to go until Season 19 launches on December 6. However, Destiny 2 players have done something insane: They completed the event on Wednesday just 25 hours after Bungie launched it.
The community event was meant to improve the Eliksni Quater in the Tower, which is a special social space inside Destiny’s typical social space. A donation box in the center of the Tower Courtyard asks players to hunt down Captain Coins along with other resources and donate them.
As players reach certain donation thresholds, different part of the Quarter eventually grow and improve. Players will eventually get rewards for their contributions.
However, players unlocked the ability to donate other currencies in the Season of Plunder. These include the Treasure Coordinates earned by completing playlist activities in Destiny 2. However, players were able to figure out an exploit in the game where they could generate unlimited Treasure Coordinates so long as they already had a few.
Players found that when swapping an expensive Treasure Map–which costs Treasure Coordinates–out for a special free one, the game accidentally refunds too many Treasure Coordinates. If you do this over and over again quickly, you can cap your Treasure Coordinates and then place them into the donation box.
Basically, players were able to generate hundreds of bonus Treasure Coordinates without spending anything of their own.
It took players about 10 to 15 minutes to unlock all individual rewards by donating 2,400 Coins. Thousands of players were able to do it at once, and the donations were much faster than it technically should have been.
Bungie’s final goal for the event was 400,000,000 Coins. It should’ve taken a very long time and at least 167,000 Guardians to donate at least 2,400 Coins each. But thanks to that exploit, it’s all solved.
