Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS:GO) is one of the most popular PC first-person shooter games ever and it looks like it’s going to be getting a sequel now which is currently titled by most as CS:GO 2.
The Steam game developed by Valve has been a big subject recently after a new report by journalist Richard Lewis claims hat sources have confirmed that “Counter-Strike 2” is real and the planned release for the beta is either March or early April.
The report continues on and states that CS:GO 2 will be made on the Source 2 engine instead of the original Source engine that Counter-Strike: Global Offensive was made with. It will also feature an improved match-making system and 128-tick servers, which are supposed to help it compete with other major rivals.
The move to the Source 2 engine would also likely push the requirements for the minimum specs allowed.
It is currently unclear if Valve will support both CS:GO and CS:GO 2. It may be a case like what Activision Blizzard did with Overwatch where Overwatch 2 entirely replaced the original title. However, that’s not yet confirmed.
If CS:GO 2 does release, it would be the fifth installment in the entire Counter-Strike series. The original Counter-Strike was actually a third-party mod for Valve’s Half Life. The rights to Counter-Strike were bought by Valve in 2000 and the mod was launched as a standalone title that year.
Counter-Strike: Global Offensive was the title that helped to bring CS:GO into a more popular light back in 2012. It leads in Steam’s monthly charts often and has a high number of concurrent players constantly.
It would be interesting to see what changes a sequel to CS:GO would bring.
