Halo Infinite’s recent announcement by 343 Industries has left many players in a state of slight shock. Not only has Season 3 been delayed, making Season 2 effectively 10 months long, but the local split-screen co-op that people were waiting for has been outright canceled.
343 Industries stated that the cancelation was to allocate resources towards the multiplayer. Halo Infinite was supposed to get a local split-screen co-op mode for the campaign, and 343 Industries had promised the feature would arrive after Halo Infinite launched.
Despite this, a clever Halo Infinite player has managed to figure out a way to get split-screen to work on an Xbox One. Originally, a Twitter user named Zeny_IC found that they could exploit a menu glitch and make specific selections, allowing for players to enable split-screen in the campaign.
Another Twitter user named KatsuyaTheFuuk also found a way to make split-screen work using a VCR Xbox One. Although it did succeed in giving a split-screen local co-op experience, there were some glitches here and there. However, it seems like the game is still very playable despite any of these issues.
Either way, it seems that players looking to enjoy split-screen local co-op might be able to test this workaround themselves and enjoy playing Halo Infinite.
Up to four players can enjoy the split-screen co-op, and the way to do it was written into a simple guide by Halo Creation:
- Go to the campaign menu and load a save
- Click on Play and get ready to quickly go to your friend list
- As soon as “loading map” appears, go to your friend list and join a friend who’s idling in the menus
- You can then leave the fireteam
- In the custom lobby, under server, select “offline”
- You can now connect your other controllers and profiles
- Click Play!
