Assassin's Creed Mirage gameplay and leaks came out

Assassin’s Creed Mirage, the highly anticipated and upcoming entry to the popular Assassin’s Creed franchise, just got a gameplay reveal. Not only that, but there are tons of leaks that have come out and it all seems very promising thus far for the new title.

If you’re not aware of what Assassin’s Creed Mirage is, then you can check out some of our articles on it. Basically, the game will be about Basim Ibn Ishaq, who was introduced in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. It will explore his life before and while he is a member of the Hidden Ones.

Assassin’s Creed Mirage is releasing on October 12 and is currently available for preorder.

After announcing it back in September 2022 during Ubisoft Forward, the French developer and publisher has been pretty quiet about the title and what we can expect to see. However, about two days ago, Ubisoft released the gameplay reveal for Assassin’s Creed Mirage during the PlayStation Showcase. You can watch the gameplay below:

Initial Reactions to the Gameplay Trailer

Alright, so I did make a video on my personal YouTube channel about my initial reactions to the Assassin’s Creed Mirage gameplay, which you can check out below:

Of course, there’s a lot we can talk about when it comes to Assassin’s Creed Mirage and the gameplay reveal, but the most striking thing I noted was how similar the game seemed to look to the first Assassin’s Creed. It also had a bit of the vibe and flair of Assassin’s Creed Origins, which I thought was great as well.

The reveal showcased some parkour, combat, stealth, and visuals that we can expect to see in Assassin’s Creed Mirage. Of course, there is still a lot more in store for the game, and we will get a demo on June 12 during Ubisoft‘s next event.

For now, Assassin’s Creed Mirage seems to be panning out to be a promising title with some great Assassin’s Creed elements sprinkled in it. Of course, it will not be a complete reset to the Assassin’s Creed franchise (wasn’t expecting it to be one anyways), but it does look like we are getting a return to some of the old form of the series.

What About the Leaks?

There are also a ton of leaks that have come out about Assassin’s Creed Mirage. These come from French YouTuber j0nathan, who posted a video before the gameplay came out. However, his prediction on the release date was accurate, so we can use these leaks as a good idea of what we can expect to see.

Of course, as these are still leaks, do take them with a grain of salt. Nothing is fully confirmed just yet, but here’s what j0nathan had to say:

The Mirage Map

According to j0nathan, the map featured in Assassin’s Creed Mirage is going to be around the same size as Paris in Assassin’s Creed Unity. Surrounding the city of Baghdad will mostly be desert, but there will be things to discover. The fortress of Alamut is also going to be located in the desert.

There will be a starting city in the beginning of the game before Basim flees to Baghdad after a heist gone wrong.

The Story

The story of Assassin’s Creed Mirage is pretty much going to be about Basim and his life as a Hidden One. The cinematic trailer from a few months ago is pretty much the recap of the beginning of the game.

Gameplay

In regards to the gameplay of Assassin’s Creed Mirage, the parkour will supposedly resemble an advanced version of the parkour in Assassin’s Creed Origins. For instance, Basim will limp when injured and there will be some cool animations when he’s jumping across the roof tops of Baghdad.

However, the parkour will not be exactly like Assassin’s Creed Unity.

The crowds will not be like the ones exactly featured in Assassin’s Creed Unity, but there will still be a lot of NPC crowds either way.

Assassin’s Creed Mirage is mainly centered and focused around stealth gameplay. Basically, Basim has a very low amount of health and can die after three hits. This is why there is an emphasis on gadgets like the throwing knives, smoke bombs, noise makers, etc…

Gadgets can be unlocked each time you go up a rank. This is a similar system to Assassin’s Creed 1, which gave you new skills and gadgets after each target you take down.

The Assassination Targets

Assassin’s Creed Mirage is set to feature four major targets, with each one occupying a major part of Baghdad. The fifth target is supposedly the Master Templar, whose identity will be a mystery. You have to investigate to obtain knowledge on who the Master Templar is and how you can kill them. Think back to how Assassin’s Creed 1 was structured with things like pick-pocketing and eavesdropping.

The more information you find out about each target, the more kill opportunities will open up to you. The developers were supposedly inspired by Hitman, which has targets that have up to 30 ways to kill them.

Reputation System

Apparently, there will be a reputation system that is similar to GTA. There are three symbols total, with a possible fourth symbol. The eye is first and it means that crowds will point you out to the guards. The second is a bow and arrow, meaning that guards will be on rooftops. The third is two crossed swords, which means that everyone is looking for you.

There may be a fourth one that puts a bounty hunter on your trail, but j0nathan was not completely sure about this point.

In order to get rid of the reputation system, you will likely have to do things like take down posters. There are factions that can help you out like the courtesans in the Ezio Trilogy. These include musicians, merchants, and mercenaries.

Alamut

There will supposedly be an Isu temple under Alamut which will store records Altair uses as keys to enter the library.

Present Day

The present day will not be a major part of Assassin’s Creed Mirage. There will only be a cutscene at the start/end of the game showing William Myles looking into Basim’s blood sample from Valhalla. However, the game will basically only feature the ancestor.

Length and Completion Time

Assassin’s Creed Mirage will likely take about 12-15 hours to complete, which is about the same time it took to complete the first Assassin’s Creed game. For completionists, it should take about 25-30 hours.

Final Thoughts

Assassin’s Creed Mirage thus far seems like quite an interesting game that could have a ton of potential for the franchise. It seems like a lot of people are very much hyped to see what Assassin’s Creed has in store for us and what Ubisoft is bringing to the table.
