Apple has announced that it will increase prices in the App Store across Europe and parts of Asia next month as currencies continue to weaken against the US dollar, which has been strengthening in recent times. The price increases will affect in-app purchases as well and will go into effect on October 5.
All countries that currently use the Euro, Sweden, South Korea, Chile, Egypt, Malaysia, Pakistan, Vietnam, and Japan will be affected by these price hikes. Montenegro being the only exception, Montenegro will see the base €0.99 app pricing move to €1.19 next month. This would constitute about a 20 percent hike.
In Japan, the hikes may be up to and more than 30 percent, as the yen continues to drop to a 24-year low against the US dollar.
Apple did not give an exact reason as to why prices are hiking in these markets, but it is most likely due to the currency fluctuations and the euro and yen struggling against the stronger US dollar. These fluctuations in currency have been spurred on by inflation and rising costs in energy.
Apple also recently raised the price of its new iPhone 14 and Apple Watch Series 8 in many markets outside the US.
