Microsoft is planning on releasing the next big Windows 11 update, 22H2, on September 20. Sources told The Verge that Microsoft is planning on rolling out Windows 11 22H2 through Windows Update on September 20, a week after regular Patch Tuesday fixes. Windows Central was the first to report on the news.
Microsoft has been putting 22H2 for testing for months now, and there will be a number of new improvements that will make user experience with the OS better. These include things like app folders in the Start menu, drag and drop on the taskbar, and new touch gestures and animations.
Microsoft is also adding some accessibility features with its Live Captions. These are great for people who are deaf, hard of hearing, or want to caption audio automatically. Additionally, a new Voice Access tool will allow users to control their device by using voice commands.
The Task Manager is getting an overhaul and will have a new dark mode and better layout. It will now have a new command bar and an efficiency mode to limit apps from consuming resources. Snap layouts will be improved in 22H2, and it will become easier to drag apps to reveal layouts that can be used to arrange them.
Microsoft is also working on adding tabs for File Explorer, but these will not release on September 20. Another update for 22H2 is planned for later this year and will include the tabs for File Explorer and a new Suggested Actions feature.
