In an unexpected move by French video game publisher, Ubisoft, the free-to-play battle royale FPS is finally shutting down.

Hyper Scape, which faced a strong initial launch but quickly failed after a few months, has been largely forgotten by many people.

We have made the difficult decision to end development of Hyper Scape and shut the game down as of April 28th. We set out to create a vertical, close-quarters, and fast-paced shooter experience and we are extremely grateful to our community for joining us on our journey. We will be taking key learnings from this game into future products as we continue our exploration of the F2P space.

To the Hyper Scape community, thank you for your passion and dedication to the world of Neo Arcadia both inside and outside of the game. Your devotion to the game we built will always be cherished.

Sincerely, Hyper Scape

The timeline of Hyper Scape’s fall over the past two years was shocking, as when it first began its ascent, Ubisoft had a strong Twitch marketing platform to build off of. The game had shot up in interest, but due to many issues (i.e., lack of anti-cheat, aim assist issues, skill gaps, etc…) the game did not stick with this trend. Ubisoft reportedly also tried to give $10 coupons to get people to play the game.

The game received its last update back in April 2021.

(Side note: I actually had a YouTube video ready to go regarding Hyper Scape’s fall from grace, but the video got lost when my hard drive kicked the bucket. Needless to say, I’ll have to rework it again, but it’ll get done!)
