Rotten Tomatoes has given the film a 97% and CinemaScore has given Top Gun: Maverick an A+, an impressively high rating. It opened on Memorial Day weekend, hitting $160.5 million during that time. It’s a record for the biggest opening over the holiday.
Maverick was initially supposed to release in theaters back in 2020, but due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it saw itself being pushed back. Maverick did not release on streaming services and instead the film was released when theaters reopened.
