Buffalo shooter had visited city in March and the day before the attack

The shooter accused of the deadly mass shooting in Buffalo, New York had visited the city in March and the day before the attack, according to Police.

Peyton Gendron, 18, had also considered Rochester, New York to target in a shooting according to Rochester police. Posts by his Discord account showed him discussing potential targets for an attack on Rochester, where he named some. Law enforcement are still working to confirm if the accounts belonged to Gendron.

Most of the named locations were located in prominently black neighborhoods.

President Biden and First Lady Jill Biden will visit Buffalo on Tuesday to grieve with the community.

California church shooter was politically motivated, according to authorities

A shooting at a California church in Orange County left a doctor dead and another five wounded. Authorities announced on Monday that the shooting was a “politically-motivated hate incident.”

The suspect was identified as David Chou of Las Vegas. He was charged with one count of murder and five counts of attempted murder.

Police believe Chou, 68, was motivated by anger over political tensions between China and Taiwan. The churchgoers were members of the Taiwanese Presbyterian Church and were using Geneva for its services.

US Air Force says it conducted a successful hypersonic missile test

The US Air Force said that it conducted a successful hypersonic missile test, which flew five times the speed of sound.

The test was conducted off the coast of Southern California using a B-25 bomber that released an Air-launched Rapid Response Weapon (ARRW).

“Following separation from the aircraft, the ARRW’s booster ignited and burned for expected duration, achieving hypersonic speeds five times greater than the speed of sound,” the Air Force said in a statement.

Judge rules California’s women on boards law is unconstitutional

An LA judge has ruled that California’s law requiring women on corporate boards is unconstitutional.

Superior Court Judge Maureen Duffy-Lewis said that the law violated the right to equal treatment.

The law had been challenged by conservative legal group Judicial Watch, who stated that it was illegal to use taxpayer funds to enforce a law violating the equal protection clause of the California Constitution by mandating a gender-based quota.

Pentagon to testify on UFOs

Congress will hold a public hearing on UFOs, the first in more than 50 years, on Tuesday.

Pentagon officials are expected to testify about how the Defense Department is organization reports on unidentified aerial phenomena (military term for UFOs). This comes after a congressionally mandated report last year revealed that most of the analyzed incidents remain undefined.

The report found no evidence of extraterrestrial or foreign adversaries at play, but did not have an explanation for most of the objects.

Ukraine evacuates fighters from Mariupol

Ukrainian forces have completed their “combat mission” in the city of Mariupol, which has seen some of the heaviest fighting since the beginning of the war.

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine ordered commanders of units stationed at the Azovstal steel plant to “save the lives of their personnel.”

Cyber attacks on Costa Rica becoming more intense; ransomware gang threatens to overthrow president

At least 27 cyber attacks have been made on Costa Rican institutions in the past month, according to President Rodrigo Chavez. He said that several government institutions were “very affected.”

It has been a week since Chavez was sworn in as president and a ransomware gang that has hit computer systems in the government has said that its goal is to overthrow Chavez.

The Conti gang, a Russian-speaking group, increased its ransom demand to $20 million.

“We are at war and that’s not an exaggeration,” Chavez said. He stated that officials were fighting a national terrorist group that had collaborators in Costa Rica.

France names new Prime Minister, Elisabeth Borne

President Emmanuel Macron has picked Labor Minister Elisabeth Borne as prime minister, the first woman to hold the position in more than 30 years. The last female prime minister, Edith Cresson, served under President Francois Mitterrand.

The reshuffling of Macron’s cabinet is taking place just before the parliamentary elections are set to begin in June.

Borne has previously served as transport minister, minister for ecological transition, and labor minister.

New Sri Lanka PM says country down to last day of petrol

Sri Lanka’s new prime minister said on Monday that the nation was down to its last day of petrol. Sri Lanka has been hit by unrest as anti-government protests continue amid an economic crisis.

Ranil Wickermesinghe was appointed PM on Thursday after the former prime minister resigned. He said in an address to the nation that the country needed $75 million in foreign exchange to pay for essential imports.

“At the moment, we only have petrol stocks for a single day. The next couple of months will be the most difficult ones of our lives. We must prepare ourselves to make some sacrifices and face the challenges of this period.”

He stated that two shipments of petrol and two shipments of diesel using an Indian credit line could provide relief in the next few days, but the country is also facing a shortage of 14 essential medicines.

Elon Musk says Twitter deal at lower price “not out of the question”

Elon musk said that a deal at a lower price to purchase Twitter Inc. is not “out of the question.”

Twitter shares fell 8.2% at the close of the trading on speculation that Musk might walk away from the $44 billion acquisition.

Musk has recently questioned Twitter’s data on the percentage of spam and fake accounts, estimating that the fake users make up at least 20% of Twitter accounts.
