Riot Games has been hit by a hack that may affect several game updates

Riot Games has announced that it has been targeted by a hack, which will affect updates for multiple titles.

The developer behind League of Legends stated that no major data or player data has been lost, but it will delay any upcoming updates for its games.

In a Tweet, Riot Games wrote: “Earlier this week, systems in our development environment were compromised via a social engineering attack.

“We don’t have all the answers right now, but we wanted to communicate early and let you know there is no indication that player data or personal information was obtained.

“Unfortunately, this has temporarily affected our ability to release content. While our teams are working hard on a fix, we expect this to impact our upcoming patch cadence across multiple games.”

League of Legends has already confirmed that it has been affected by the hack, tweeting, “Heads up, players. This may impact our delviery date for patch 13.2. The League team is working to stretch the limits of what we can hotfix in order to deliver the majority of the planned and tested balance changes on time still.”

Teamfight Tactics was also affected by the hack and its 13.2 patch will be affected as well. The Twitter account released a statement as well, writing: “13.2 was focused on further balance updates for Monsters Attack! This issue may impact our ability to release the full scope of balance changes planned, but we’re working to implement the most meaningful of those possible through a hotfix at our scheduled patch time.”

Riot Games Also in the News for Planned Layoffs

This isn’t the first story for Riot Games to break the news lately. The other day, reports came out stating that Riot Games will be laying off some of its staff. Esports journalist Jacob Wolf alleged that multiple Riot Games employees told him the company is looking to layoff staff.

The full extent of the layoff is unclear, but Wolf claims it will mainly affect “recruiting & human resources, support, and esports.”

“Riot’s historically not made many reductions in force in the past,” Wolf added, “but it’s in line with a broader trend in tech, gaming, and entertainment as economic hardship begins to affect many corporations.”

Riot Games would only be one of a pool of many tech companies that have been downsizing and cutting staff. Ubisoft is also facing economic challenges and Alphabet–Google’s parent company–just laid off approximately 12,000 employees.
