Bungie is making changes to weapon crafting in Destiny 2

Although players were anticipating and excited for Destiny 2‘s Witch Queen expansion getting weapon crafting, it seemed like it quickly became a burden for many players, especially with the intense grinding needed.

In Thursday’s Bungie blog, the studio outlined some major changes that are coming to weapon crafting in the Lightfall expansion, which releases in February 2023. Additionally, weapon crafting will be available in Beyond Light’s Deep Stone Crypt raid later this year.

Bungie announced that players in the Deep Stone Crypt raid will be able to craft weapons starting on December 6 when the next season of the game launches. Players will need to collect Deepsight Resonance weapons from the raid in order to extract the Pattern. Once the Pattern has been unlocked, Guardians will be able to craft the weapon and put specific perks on it.

Bungie also noted that many perk pools have been reconfigured and that players can expect more combinations.

Bungie also explained that it will not add a puzzle chest that guarantees a Deepsight Resonance weapon every week like Vow of the Discipline and King’s Fall have. However, players can still purchase a Deepsight Resonance weapon from the final chest once a week.

For weeks where the Deep Stone Crypt raid is featured, players will be able to replay the raid several times to try and get Patterns.

Lightfall is getting some crafting changes as well. Firstly, weapons that cannot be crafted will no longer drop with red borders. Players will also have a way to choose a weapon pattern to target in Lightfall and there will be more ways to gain weapon Patterns.

It also looks like Lightfall may have a way to level up crafted weapons faster after the studio noted that grinding kills in raid encounters like Shruo Chi isn’t the most fun way to level up weapons. They’re planning on reducing “loadout stress” by not forcing players to use low-level crafted weapons. How this will be implemented is not totally clear just yet though.
