Elden Ring update includes damage scaling and more

A new update for Elden Ring has released and it brought with it updates for Player vs. Enemy, Player vs. Player modes and more. The new update separates damage scaling for PvE and PvP, and it also seems to hint at ray tracing.

In the v1.07 patch notes for Elden Ring, the separation of damage scaling will allow for different weapons and skills to be balanced for each mode individually. In a blog post, publisher Bandai Namco stated that the feature may be used to “balance weapons, Art, Spell, and Incantation in invading/PvP mode…Balance adjustments made within this feature will not impact single-player and cooperative play.”

Some changes have already rolled out for PvP, including increased stamina attack power for all attacks against guarded foes (minus long-ranged weapons). Additionally, there has been a reduction in the power of Ashes of War across the board. Incantations like Dragonfire, Rotten Breath, and Agheel’s Flame have been nerfed for PvP.

One of the more interesting components of the update was revealed by data miner Lance McDonald on Twitter. He noted that ”menu strings related to ray tracing features” have been added, which suggests that lighting and reflection technology will likely be added to Elden Ring sometime in a future update.

A FromSoftware content creator, ZullieTheWitch, also noted that the data includes references to two new maps that are currently not in Elden Ring’s data. ZullieTheWitch stated that their IDs are m20 and m45, and that the newly found m20 may be the next ”main” area of Elden Ring. She commented that ”m20 could be Legacy Dungeon.” McDonald provided similar information on the maps.

It is likely that a DLC is in the works, but no official word has been given on that yet by FromSoftware or Bandai Namco.
