The Super Mario Bros animated film has received incredibly positive reviews after the trailer was unveiled on YouTube earlier this month, even with the debate surrounding Chris Pratt’s role as Mario in the movie.
The trailer showcases two scenes: Bowser invading the castle of a penguin clan and of Mario teleporting into the Mushroom Kingdom. He’s clearly shocked and confused in the scene, leading us to believe it’s his first time in the dimension.
The first half of the trailer was intense, but it was the second portion that caught audience’s attention the most as we get to hear Chris Pratt’s voice for the first time. It’s been a source of controversy ever since the film’s announcement last year.
However, even with the issue of the actor’s voice, the trailer has received over 95% positive reviews. The trailer, across all 5 studio channels where it was uploaded, has received over 23 million views according to VGC. Of these, the like to dislike ratio has been at 95.4% (as of October 10).
Compared to one of the more recent animated comic-film controversies, Sonic The Hedgehog, the film’s original trailer received half the views and had a positive rating of 39%, due to the original design the studio had created for the beloved animated character.
Following the redesign undertaken by Paramount however, the re-released trailer has almost a 98% positive rating.
