Roger Waters, a co-founder of the popular British rock band Pink Floyd, has canceled planned concerts in Poland after backlash following his comments on the Russian war in Ukraine.
Waters was set to perform two concerts in April at Tauron Arena in Krakow, Poland. However, an official at the venue said that the concerts would no longer take place.
Lukasz Pytko from Tauron Arena Krakow said on Saturday that “Roger Waters’ manager decided to withdraw…without giving any reason.”
Roger Waters had written an open letter to Ukrainian first lady Olena Zelenska earlier in September saying that the war in Ukraine was caused by “extreme nationalists” that “set [Ukraine] on the path to this disastrous war.”
Additionally, Waters jabbed at the United States and other Western nations for supplying Ukraine with weapons. Waters also blamed NATO and accused it of provoking Russia.
City councilors in Krakow were expected to vote next week on a proposal to name Waters as a persona non grata (an unacceptable or unwelcome person) as a result of his stance on the war.
Roger Waters has long held staunch political stances, criticizing wars and conflicts around the globe in the past.
