Disney has officially announced the release date for Inside Out 2, which will be coming to theaters on June 14th of 2024. The film was announced at this year’s D23 exposition, and it was revealed that The Good Dinosaur director Kelsey Mann will be behind the film.
Amy Poehler, the original film’s lead actress, said that “I read the script and it’s amazing.” The movie will narrate the life of an older, teenage version of Riley, the first film’s main character. They’ll be introducing new emotions as a result.
This is now Pixar’s sixth movie to get its own sequel film alongside Cars, Finding Nemo, and Toy Story. Inside Out did have its’ own mini-franchise prior to this film’s announcement however, with over 6 mini-shorts showcasing Riley’s life following the film. No one is sure of what the new movie’s plot is going to be yet.
The original movie focused on a group of emotions portrayed as colorful, human-like characters that struggle to adapt to Riley’s new living environment following moving from her family home. The movie made nearly $900 million after its release back in 2015, making it one of the studios’ most profitable movies.
