Babylon’s Fall, the online hack-and-slash from Square Enix is shutting down in February 2023, less than one year after it was released. The game was poorly received and received no shortage of scathing reviews. Now, Square Enix is throwing in the towel on the failed project.
In an official statement, Square Enix said: “With the desire of delivering an exhilarating online multiplayer action RPG set in a elaborate high fantasy world, we launched the game’s official service on Thursday, 3 March 2022, and have continued to undertake additional development and operations.
However, it is with deep regret to inform you that we will be terminating the game’s service on Tuesday, 28 February 2023.”
Babylon’s Fall launched on Windows PC, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5, and seemed to not land well with players. Many cited that it felt generic and had lackluster combat. Square Enix had originally said that they would “not reduce the scale of development” on the title. It seems like the decision did not pan out as they had hoped.
Digital sales of Babylon’s Fall have officially stopped as of the announcement and the game will officially shut down in February 2023. The game will still launch its third and final season for existing players:
“In terms of the plan moving forward, Season 2 will run until Tuesday, 29 November 2022 as scheduled, and the Final Season will begin with the maintenance scheduled on the same day. This Final Season is the period during which you can earn the ranking rewards of Season 2.
As a way of expressing our gratitude to all our players, we plan to implement as many events and other initiatives as we can, leading up to the end of the service.”
There will be events missions and quest boosts for those who are still sticking around to the bitter end. However, it doesn’t seem like there are many still dedicated to this title.
These include events missions and quest boosts for those still clinging to the game following its death knell, but you have to wonder how many active players there will be at this point.
