Netflix ad-tier will launch in November

Netflix is reportedly launching its cheaper, ad-supported tier in November. It was originally planned for release in 2023.

In a report by Variety, Netflix has moved the release date up to beat Disney+, which is set to release its ad-supported tier on December 8. The release date for Netflix’s new tier is now November 1, and will launch in the U.S., France, the U.K., Canada, Germany, Australia, and other countries. The expected price is currently somewhere between $7 and $9. A current Netflix subscription costs about $15.49, but $9.99 for the lower tier.

A Netflix spokesperson said that the company is “still in the early days of deciding how to launch a lower priced, ad-supported option and no decisions have been made. So this is all just speculation at this point.”

Netflix has been facing massive subscriber losses and falling revenue in recent months. The ad-supported tier seemed to be a solution for both users and advertisers, according to Netflix.

In terms of its ads, Netflix is working with Microsoft to make the ads possible.
