Head of Xbox, Phil Spencer, has confirmed that Call of Duty, as well as other Activision Blizzard titles like Diablo and Overwatch, will eventually be coming to Xbox Game Pass–Microsoft’s video game subscription service. However, Call of Duty will still be released on PlayStation on the same day.
In a blog post on Microsoft’s website, Spencer confirmed that the library of games by Activision Blizzard will be coming to Xbox Game Pass once the Activision Blizzard acquisition by Microsoft goes through.
Phil Spencer stated that the goal of Xbox was to bring as many games as possible onto the Game Pass platform, but that Call of Duty would launch on PlayStation the same day as it launches elsewhere. So, PlayStation players do not need to worry about exclusivity on Call of Duty.
In the post, Phil Spencer wrote that “we intend to make Activision Blizzard’s much-loved library of games–including Overwatch, Diablo and Call of Duty–available in Game Pass and to grow those gaming communities. By delivering even more value to players, we hope to continue growing Game Pass, extending its appeal to mobile phones and any connected device.”
No exact date has been given on when Call of Duty or any Activision game could be joining Game pass, and Spencer did not provide specific dates or details either.
The acquisition of Activision Blizzard by Microsoft, valued at nearly $70 billion, is currently under investigation by consumer boards, but Phil Spencer recently stated that he “feels good” about the deal’s progress.
