Some rumors have been circulating across the internet lately regarding 343 Industries and the fate of the Halo franchise. The biggest rumor ahs been that 343 will not be in charge of lead development for Halo. However, 343 Industries went to Twitter to confirm that it will continue to “develop Halo now and in the future.”
Pierre Hintze, the head of 343 shared a message over on Twitter confirming this. He wrote: “Halo and Master Chief are here to stay.”
The rumors come after news of a massive series of layoffs at Microsoft saw 10,000 employees let go. Some of these employees were involved in Xbox Game Studios, The Coalition, 343 Industries, and Bethesda. Shortly after, Halo Infinite director Joseph Staten reportedly left 343 to rejoin Xbox publishing.
It was at that point that rumors began to make their rounds online, claiming that 343 Industries would be taken off lead development of the Halo franchise. Instead, some rumors claimed that other third-party studios would work on Halo.
However, 343 Industries has shut the rumors down. It doesn’t come as much of a surprise, considering that Halo has been in the hands of 343 for quite some time. However, with all of these layoffs and the gaming/tech industry at large going through major difficulties, it’s not a far-fetched idea.
Halo Infinite has seen quite a bit of difficulty since it was announced. The game had initially been delayed to rework its design and the multiplayer has seen a drop in player numbers since it released. This could be because it was free-to-play, but many long-time Halo fans were displeased with the state of the Halo Infinite multiplayer.
The single-player campaign was great though, and the multiplayer overall is very fun. So, the game is good, but many were really angry at 343’s handling of it. Additionally, Bonnie Ross stepped down from 343 a few months ago, so the studio has seen some changes recently.
