Nvidia GeForce Now is allowing 120 FPS streaming for Android

GeForce Now is Nvidia’s cloud gaming service, and allows users to explore a variety of games from the comfort of non-gaming standard devices. GeForce Now is also supporting 120 FPS cloud game streaming across all Android phones that have a 120Hz display screen. The rollout of this feature is this week.

Allowing up to 120 FPS on any video game will certainly feel smoother than the previous cap of 60 FPS. 120 FPS through Nvidia’s GeForce Now was available on some Android handsets from companies like Samsung, Google, OnePlus, Xiaomi, and Asus. However, now it is available for all Android handsets, provided they have the required 120Hz screens.

Nvidia’s subscription tiers do impact this rollout. Subscribers that pay for the premium RTX 3080 tier are the only users that can access the higher refresh rate. This tier comes out to $20 monthly. The lower $10 monthly Priority tier allows only up to 60 FPS.

It does not appear at this time that a 120 FPS rollout is going to be coming to Apple’s iPhones anytime soon. The nature of Apple’s restrictive App Store policies would force Nvidia to stream via a web app on iOS. Development of iOS apps is likely more challenging than Android apps, making the work far more taxing.

GeForce Now is a very interesting concept that has allowed users with devices like MacBooks and even some LG TVs to enjoy the power of video games even without a dedicated GPU. Since 4K streaming is not exclusive to Nvidia hardware anymore, many devices can benefit from gaming at 4K quality.

Nvidia is also giving away an in-game reward in Fortnite. Until August 4, players who boot up Fortnite using GeForce Now will receive the “Dish-stroyer Pickaxel” on August 11.
