The video games industry is massive and has a major global spread. With international companies taking on the helm of gaming, there are so many cities and places where you can work in the industry. Of these cities however, Montreal is well-known for its position in the gaming world and its numerous video game studios.
Not only is Montreal one of the highest rated cities for students and younger people to live in, it’s a great city full of life, exists in a bilingual country, and houses studios for some of the biggest video game companies in the world.
Montreal also boasts tons of schools that offer studies in things like video game animation, programming, and design.

Here are all ten of biggest video game companies with studios in Montreal:
10. Bethesda
Known for its popular titles like Fallout, Dishonored and Skyrim, Bethesda has been one of the biggest studios in the video game world ever. Bethesda was bought by Microsoft not too long ago and is working towards two new games for 2023.
The Montreal development studio first opened its doors back in 2015. Bethesda announced that its subsidiary in Montreal would work on console, PC and mobile game development.
9. Quantic Dream
Quantic Dream is a French video game developer and publisher. It is known for its popular title Detroit: Become Human. The main studio is based in Paris, France. However, in 2021, Quantic Dream opened its doors in Montreal.
Currently, its Montreal studio is its only other studio aside from the one in Paris.
8. Epic Games
Epic Games is one of the most popular and well-known names in the video game industry. The company is behind Unreal Engine, which is a massive name in the world of game development as well. Additionally, it developed and published one of the most popular free-to-play battle royales of all time: Fortnite.
Epic Games also has a studio in Montreal that works on development and more. Its Montreal location also works on building up features of Unreal Engine.
7. Eidos Montreal
If you couldn’t guess from the name yet, Eidos Montreal is located in…Montreal! A member of the Embracer Group, Eidos Montreal has been in operation for nearly 15 years now. The studio has worked on some really popular IPs like Deus Ex, Thief and Tomb Raider. Eidos Montreal also recently worked on Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy.
Back in 2021, Eidos Montreal was recognized as one of the Best Places to Work in Canada and in 2022 it was recognized as one of Montreal’s Top Employers.
6. Electronic Arts (EA)
Electronic Arts, commonly referred to as EA, is a big name in the industry. EA Montreal works on many projects and systems. It’s also home to Motive Studios, which is a team that works on EA’s well-known Frostbite engine.
EA Montreal also has positions available to people in market research, analytics, and more. EA Montreal is currently working on an Iron Man game, which is one out of several upcoming Marvel games that EA is working on.
5. Gameloft
Gameloft is a company that focuses on developing and publishing mobile games. You’ve probably seen their logo many times before if you frequently play games on mobile. Gameloft has worked on projects like Asphalt 9: Legends (which we included in our top best free multiplayer mobile games list) and Disney Magic Kingdoms.
Gameloft’s Montreal video game studio has been open since 2000. Gameloft Montreal prides itself on being employee-first and offering lots of benefits and perks.
4. Behaviour Interactive
Behaviour Interactive was founded back in 1992 and is Canada’s largest independent game developer and publisher. It has studios in both Montreal and Toronto currently and boasts over 1,000 employees across the two. Behaviour Interactive is known for its popular IP, Dead by Daylight.
Behaviour Interactive is also working on a new IP called Meet Your Maker, which is supposed to release in 2023.
3. Cloud Chamber
Cloud Chamber is a studio that was recently opened by 2K, which is known for its work on NBA, Mafia: Definitive Edition, and more. 2K opened it to continue working on the BioShock franchise. There are two branches of Cloud Chamber: One in Montreal and one in Novato, California.
Cloud Chamber is also the first 2K studio located in Canada, which is a pretty big deal. Since it’s still new, there’s not a whole lot of info just yet, but Bioshock should be enough to convince you how cool it sounds!
2. Warner Bros. Games
Warner Bros. is a massive name in the entertainment and gaming industry. WB Games Montreal was founded back in 2010 and recently saw the release of Gotham Knights. It also worked on the popular Batman: Arkham Origins.
The team at WB Games Montreal is a little over 300 employees. It mostly focuses on making games based on the DC comics.
1. Ubisoft
Likely one of the most well-known game studios in Canada, Ubisoft has two offices in Quebec alone. Not including its studio in Montreal, it also has one in Quebec City. Ubisoft Montreal is the birthplace of the popular Assassin’s Creed franchise and has worked on other games like Rainbow Six Siege.
Founded in 1997, Ubisoft Montreal was actually opened as a way to get more multimedia jobs in Quebec. It’s now the largest game development studio in the world with over 4,000 employees. Ubisoft Montreal helped to encourage other game companies to open studios in Montreal as well.
