Microsoft is shaking things up with how Windows is released, and that means we may be getting Windows 12 in 2024. According to Windows Central, Microsoft is reverting back to a three-year release cycle for Windows, which would mean that Windows 12 is set for 2024.
Back in 2015 with the release of Windows 10, Microsoft had moved away from the three-year release cycles and wanted to see Windows as a service instead. Windows 10 was updated twice each year with major features, with many Windows users believing that Windows 10 was the last release from the software company.
Microsoft then switched up on users with the release of Windows 11. Prior to Windows 11, Microsoft had said that they were “reflective of the way Windows will be delivered as a service bringing new innovations and updates in an ongoing manner.”
Windows 11 was released not too long ago, but many Windows 10 loyalists have refused to upgrade their systems just yet, hoping to skip out on the new upgrade. With Windows 11 not receiving any major updates so far, many are wondering if that indicates that Windows 12 is coming up in the cycle.
Microsoft is still planning on giving Windows 11 priority, and will be shipping its next major update, 22H2, in September or October. The company has moved away from promising major annual updates for Windows 11 and is preferring to ship major features once they become ready.
It was also reported that Microsoft scrapped plans for a 23H2 major annual update in 2023 and will be rolling the features throughout the next year instead.
No official comments have been made by Microsoft on the roadmap for their Windows software, nor if Windows 12 is really coming in 2024.
