It looks like the PlayStation 5 shortage is officially over, as Sony announced that the PlayStation 5 has surpassed more than 30 million sales.
Jim Ryan, president of Sony Interactive Entertainment, revealed the figure at Sony’s CES tech conference. The number is up five million from the 25 million figure revealed back in November.
“We truly appreciate the support and patience of the PlayStation community as we managed unprecedented demand amid global challenges over the past two years,” Jim Ryan said.
He continued, saying, “PS5 supply improved toward the end of last year, and I’m happy to share that December was the biggest month ever for PS5 console sales and that we have now sold more than 30 million units through to consumers worldwide.”
Sony also seems confident that supply issues are solved, with Ryan saying that “everyone who wants a PS5 should have a much easier time finding one at retailers globally, starting from this point forward.”
The PlayStation 5 console was hit by the semiconductor chip shortage that has been restricting tech products and raising prices over the past few years. Despite the shortage, the PlayStation 5 still saw more than 20 million sales as of June 2021.
