The Most Shockingly Expensive Superyachts From Around the World

Since the beginning of modern history, yachts have been seen a sign of the affluent and wealthy. They’ve served as on-water symbols of royalty as far back as we can remember.

Many yachts, like the famed Egyptian El Mahrousa have been in operation since the 1800’s, however a lot has changed since that era. Yachts have gone from nice, luxurious boats to fully-fledged hotels, with some containing pools, cinemas, and even submarines.

That might sound like exaggeration, but for the world’s billionaires, it’s a part of everyday life. Here are some of the most impressive and jaw-dropping superyachts from around the globe.

6. Nord

The Nord is a gorgeous, word-class design made by German manufacturer Lürssen, who are widely recognized for their superior yacht construction and design.

The details that are known about the watercraft are far-between, but Rob Moran, the ship’s build manager did share a few especial details with Boat International.

For one, the boat is constructed with an Ice Class hull, meaning its able to move through icy waters. That opens the door to the idea of exploration, a massive plus as most yachts are made for water-bound travel only.

The boat’s aluminum build moves back into 4 decks: one for each story of the craft. Found on the main deck is an 82 foot-long swimming pool, and above that on the second deck is a spa pool. The third deck is home to a heli-pad, which can also be found on the front deck.

The boat’s larger-than-life beach club alongside its garage allows it to store all kinds of “toys,” according to Moran. One of these is a fully-fledged submarine.

The boat’s bridge deck has a massive, open space which can serve as a landing space for helicopters as well as a hangar. The top of the boat is adorned with four massive satellite globes.

Not much is known about the interior, with very fleeting images out on the internet. However, it has been reported to house a spa, gym, sauna, 20 suites, and an entire personal deck for its lucky owner.

5. Solaris

German bran Lloyd Werft truly outdid themselves with the beautiful, smooth-hulled, silver superyacht The Solaris.

The boat is a whopping 140 meter long, and it was released in February of last year. It was designed by Australian industrial designer Marc Newson, making this boat pure class.

The outside has a sleek, wrap-around design with a gray and white finish. The boat holds eight total decks, and is built out of solid aluminum, although it isn’t an Ice Hill like the Nord. On the boat’s exterior can be found a sun deck, beach club with pool, and a helipad.

Like the Nord however not much is known about the boat’s interior other than a few images on the internet unfortunatley. Where the boat is strong however is its power. It has the largest propulsion system out of any yacht in the world, and it runs on 8 diesel engines (a total of 19,040 horse power).

4. Al Mahrousa

The famous historic El Mahrousa pays homage to the old royal style of the Ottoman Empire, more specifically the Egyptian state of the empire.

It was built in 1865 by 1800’s ship-building firm The Samuda Brothers, and it held the title as the world’s longest yacht before it was beaten in the eighties by the gargantuan Prince Abdulaziz.

It was built as a gift for Ottoman governor Khedive Ismail, and he put it to use, showcasing it at the opening of the Suez Canal in 1869, and using it to meet with dignitaries and important people. The boat was actually elongated in 1872 and 1905, making it grow further and further.

Everything, from the shape of the boat to its lavish interior employs the old Arabesque style of design. The interior has clean, carpeted seating areas outfitted with ancient Egyptian design alongside luxurious bedrooms that will make you feel like you’re living in 50’s Arabia.

Unfortunatley the boat fell into a state of disrepair in the 70’s, but was repaired in 1992, just before the Christopher Columbus Fleet Review show in Italy. It now serves as the Presidential Yacht of Egypt, but it’s rarely used.

3. A+

The A+ wasn’t always called its attention-grabbing name. It was originally known as the Topaz, but got renamed back in May of 2019.

Like many other superyachts, not much is known about this one. The craft was designed by millionaire designer Tim Heywood and was released by manufacturer Lürssen back in 2012. His signature is even written in illuminated letters on the boat’s superstructure.

The boat was gifted to UAE Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed al-Nahyan, the owner of the Manchester City Football club. It has also been chartered two independent times by Leonardo DiCaprio, giving its name a bigger boost in the world of the elite.

The boat features a landing pad and interiors designed by Terence Disdale. Apparently, the boat is designed to house over 52 people, and has a staff of around 79 employees. However, not much else is known past this.

2. Crescent

Lürssen’s gorgeous 2018 yacht Crescent, originally named Project Thunder, has it all. A gorgeous, modern interior reminiscent of the finest hotels in the world, designed by Zuretti. The boat’s exterior, which looks like an office building on water, was designed by Espen Øino and the naval craft was designed by Lürssen themselves.

Every aspect of the boat is designed to scream luxury. With full-height windows, decks upon decks of beautiful interiors, and even a control-room that would make the average yacht-owner jealous, the Crescent is one of our personal favorites.

The sleek black hull combined with the whiter aluminum main structure makes the ship a beast of a craft. It also has three wrap-around front windows on the main decks, giving its guests a gorgeous view of the waters. I think it’s safe to say the boat justifies its $600 million price point.

1. Serene

The Serene yacht is a gorgeous piece of naval engineering. It was developed by Italian shipyard Fincantieri, and released in 2011, originally for Russian-Israeli billionaire Yuri Shefler.

During a South of France vacation back in 2014 however it would be purchased by Saudi Prince Mohammed Bin Salman for 500 million euros.

The boat is designed to capacitate 24 guests and 52 crew members, and has an impressive 4,500 square feet of space, larger than the average American home.

The interior was designed by luxury design brand Reymond Langton, and is outfitted with spiral staircases, skylights, and even a snow room, which can make up to four inches of snow. Interesting idea.

The boat also has underwater viewing decks, a hangar for helicopters, two helipads, an on-board submarine, and seven individual decks. Not shockingly, the boat’s flashy design won it the 2012 World Superyacht Awards. It’s one of the ten largest yachts in world history.
