It looks like Steam has a new feature that will let players have timed free game trials. Prior to this, players who wanted to just test out a game would have to buy it, play less than two hours of it, and return it within two weeks. However, it looks like now, Steam is giving players a new option from publishers.
The first game to give a timed free trial is the Dead Space remake, which is available to be played for an hour and a half. It’s likely that many more games will allow this feature in the future, but for now, if you want to try out the Dead Space remake before purchasing, you can.
All you have to do is to go over to the sale page on Steam, hit Play Now, download the game, and play for 1.5 hours. However, it looks like this is currently available for a limited period of time. So, if you want to try out Dead Space, you can do so until May 29.
There is currently no word from Steam on if the trial feature will be extended to other games. It makes sense that more publishers would implement this, but we have yet to see.
I would personally love to see some trials on some games that I’m on the fence with. It seems like a much more useful way to try out a game rather than buy it, hope I don’t exceed two hours, and then return it.
Speaking of which, I’m gonna go try out that Dead Space remake trial now while I still can. I’ve heard raving reviews about it, so who knows? Maybe my bank account will hate me after this trial ends.
