Sony has released a statement saying that it had no involvement in Death Stranding being brought to PC Game Pass. Despite Sony’s ownership of the IP, a spokesperson for Sony said that “matters relating to the PC release of Death Stranding are managed by Kojima Productions and 505 Games. [Sony] has no involvement in this promotion.”
Death Stranding was initially released as a PlayStation exclusive but was later released on PC. The Director’s Cut edition was released back in March for PC, but will not be the version available on Game Pass. The base game, originally released on PC back in 2020, will be available for PC Game Pass subscribers.
PC Game Pass’ official Twitter account had teased the coming of Death Stranding to the service after revealing their new profile picture. Eagle-eyed fans were able to look into the image and found its location in Death Stranding. Later, an image of Sam Porter Bridges holding a briefcase with a PC Game Pass sticker on it was used as an announcement for the addition.
Hideo Kojima, the game’s creator and director, announced some time ago that Kojima Productions would be working with Xbox Game Studios to make his next game and not PlayStation. Norman Reedus, the actor for Sam Porter Bridges, also confirmed that a Death Stranding sequel was being worked on.
Death Stranding is set to arrive on August 23 for PC Game Pass only.
