With the recent release of Overwatch 2, Blizzard shut down servers for the first Overwatch title on October 3. When Overwatch first released about six years ago, the game was not free-to-play like Overwatch 2 is now. However, despite the death of Overwatch, physical copies are still out there, floating on store shelves. For some reason.
Both online and brick-and-mortar stores are still selling copies of the original Overwatch, sometimes for up to $50. If anyone does buy a copy of the first game, it will still boot up Overwatch 2, which is free. So, yeah, a massive waste of hard-earned cash.
Searching up copies of Overwatch online shows brand-new ones still being sold for an average of about $25. I guess that it’s good for those who want to collect dead games?
Still, it is possible that buying the original Overwatch will give you 15 free skins from the Legendary Edition that should transfer to Overwatch 2. However, there seems to be reported issues about account merging and save transfers for some players, so this trick might not even work anyways. Still, if it does work, it works I suppose.
It does look like big stores like GameStop have already stopped selling copies of the original game online, so the rest of the flock will probably catch up soon anyways.
