Ubisoft has announced that their upcoming pirate battle game, Skull & Bones, is being delayed once again. This would mark the fifth time Ubisoft has delayed the title.

In a press release today, Ubisoft provided a new release date of March 9, 2023. This would allow for Skull & Bones to release just before the end of the fiscal year.

Ubisoft explained that while ”game development is finished at this stage,” the four month delay will be used to ”further polish and balance the experience.” The announcement comes after technical tests and Insider Program feedback from previous closed betas.

Skull & Bones has seen a wild ride in its development already. It was first revealed during E3 2017 and was supposed to come out in 2018 and release on last-gen consoles.

However, it was delayed into 2019-2020 originally. After seeming to hide under the radar, it was reported that the title was being rebooted. It was then delayed later into 2020 and then again into 2021.

Skull & Bones was then once again delayed into 2022-2023 and was given a November 8, 2022 release date. But now, that’s up in limbo as well.

Ubisoft is also going to make Skull & Bones the first game to retail at a $70 price point.

If Skull & Bones does not get delayed again, it will arrive on Xbox Series X|S, PS5, Google Stadia, Amazon Luna, and PC. Ubisoft+ users on PC, Stadia, and Luna will get Skull & Bones on day one.

An open beta for Skull & Bones will be held before the title releases.
