After the rough launch of Overwatch 2, Blizzard has decided to give players double XP, a weapon charm, and a free skin to make up for the situation.

Between October 25 and December 6, players who log in will be given a new legendary skin for Reaper, the Cursed Captain, and a Health Pack weapon charm.

In a blog post, Blizzard apologized to fans for the issues, announcing it would run several weekends of double XP to allow players to catch up. During the launch week, Overwatch 2 was practically unplayable for many who had to wait in long queues.

Overwatch 2 was also hit by a series of DDoS attacks that prevent players from entering the game. There were also bugs causing PCs to shutdown or restart upon logging in to Overwatch 2.

There was also the issue regarding the controversial phone verification policy. The SMS verification would have prevented users without cell phones or with prepaid phone plans from being able to play. This led Blizzard to remove the feature for most players, only requiring it for new accounts.

In the post, Blizzard stated that “since the launch of Overwatch 2, we’ve been blown away by your excitement, and incredibly moved by the sheer number of you experiencing our game. But we know we have run into some significant issues as well.

“We’re committed to consistently investigating issues as they arise, working quickly towards fixes, and being transparent with our community on the status of Overwatch 2.”
