Greg Kelley, Nissan exec, found guilty by Tokyo court

Tokyo: Former aid of Carlos Ghosn and executive at Nissan was found guilty in the early hours of March third after aiding Ghosn in avoiding pay disclosure laws. He was sentenced to half a year in prison, and suspended from his role at Nissan for three years.

Kelley helped Ghosn in hiding almost 9 billion in yen (around 80 million USD) from his personal income. When the scandal was exposed, and Ghosn was arrested in 2018, he managed to flee the nation by hiding in a box on a plane going to Lebanon.

While the prosecution wanted a two-year sentence for Kelley, he will not be jailed in the US (as he is a US citizen) as long as he adheres to certain conditions laid out over the next three years.

The Kelley-trial was a major burden on US-Japanese relations for years. But now, the problem is out of the way.
