Lightyear, the recent Pixar film about the beloved Buzz Lightyear of the Toy Story franchise, has gotten an official release date for Disney+. The film is set to launch on Disney+ on August 3rd according to a tweet by Pixar’s Lightyear.
Director Angus Lan said that “Lightyear looks amazing on the big screen, of course, but we are so excited to bring it to Disney+. We devoted years of our lives to this film and we are so proud of it. We want to share it with as many people as possible. Disney+ not only gives more fans an opportunity to see ‘Lightyear,’ it gives us all the means to see it again and again.”
At the box office, Lightyear did not seem to perform up to many expectations. With films like Jurassic World, Top Gun Maverick, and Minions releasing at relatively the same time, the outcome for Lightyear was not the most optimal.
Additionally, many felt that the film only played on nostalgia and did not offer anything unique. Actors like Tim Allen and Tom Hanks spoke out on the recasting of Buzz Lightyear, who was played by Chris Evans in the new film.
