Lenovo has announced its newest product–AR (augmented reality) glasses. Their official name is “T1” and they are compatible with iPhones, as well as other Apple products.
The Lenovo Glasses T1 are supposed to be the answer by Lenovo to get AR technology into the hands of ordinary consumers. They look quite simple with a black frame and special AR lenses. Lenovo says that it is “your personal mobile display solution,” as they only work when connected to another device.
The hardware is basic to break down: Two Micro OLED panels with a 108-p resolution, each with Full HD display and a framerate of 60Hz. It’s also certified for low blue light and flicker reduction for eye comfort. They also have built-in speakers. Lenovo stated that the product is mainly for users to extend what they’re seeing on a screen for a more immersive experience.
ArsTechnica got to try out a demo of the Lenovo Glasses T1 and described it as having reasonable brightness, vibrant colors, and a clear interface. However, the reporter stated that controlling the glasses can be a bit awkward, as they need to be controlled through another device in some instances.
The glasses also do not have a built-in processor, which does keep the device price low, but it also needs another device to connect to. This connection can be done through a USB-C cable and an adapter will be available for Apple users. It can connect to a smartphone, tablet, or computer.
Lenovo has confirmed that the glasses will launch later this year in China and then release in ‘selected markets” in 2023. No details have been given just yet on the exact price, but according to the ArsTechnica report, it’s expected that the product will be less than $500.
