Hyenas is a new PvPvPvE shooter that is being made by Sega and Creative Assembly. It’s team is the same one that brought us Alien: Isolation and Halo Wars 2.
The story behind Hyenas is simple: billionaires have colonized Mars and Earth is now basically inhospitable. It’s set to be a fast-paced multiplayer FPS that sets players up as anti-hero pirates that steal from these rich billionaires. In a way, it’s like space Robin Hood.

Each match hosts 15 players and those players are split into three teams that have to compete to steal treasure from a spaceship and escape with the most loot.
The enemy players have to fight against is an AI-controlled security force whose job is to defend the vaults containing the treasures players need to get. These guards are known as MFPF (‘murphs’). The maps also include zero gravity in certain segments, adding more stakes to the gameplay. This zero-gravity allows players the ability to float around. However, players can have maglock boots to work around the gravity.
Creative director Charli Bewsher told IGN that the ships com equipped with “security, sensors, switches, interactive systems, and gadgets.”
The maps in Hyena are quite large. Creative Assembly stated that it will be larger than a regular PvP deathmatch map, but will not be as large as maps in larger battle royales like Fortnite and Warzone.
Hyenas also aims to showcase a lot of culturally iconic pieces like the Rubik’s cube and green army men. These old artifacts are the riches that billionaires have been hoarding and what teams in Hyenas are meant to steal.
Hyenas is set to release on the Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, and PC in 2023. According to Creative Assembly, it will not be free to play. Interested players can sign up for the alpha on the Hyenas website.
