Far Cry 7 has been in the works for sometime over at Ubisoft, and we finally have some new details about the story and gameplay. Apparently, Far Cry 7 will see players attempt to rescue their wealthy family who has been kidnapped by a group called the Sons of Truth.
Insider Gaming first reported on the news of Far Cry 7’s development and the story details. Insider Gaming cites undisclosed sources and claims that Project Blackbird (as it’s being internally called) will feature a non-linear story. The protagonist must rescue their kidnapped family in the story. Apparently, the story must be completed within 72 in-game hours.
The goal of Far Cry 7 seems to be bringing down the Sons of Truth, who are described as a “conspiracy group.” You will have a specific time-frame to bring them down, but apparently this timer will stop in certain locations such as safehouses. Players will also need to track down and rescue their family members along the way in order to 100% the game.
There will be a new enemy interrogation mechanic where enemies will supposedly lie, refuse to cooperate, or even escape. Family members can be rescued in any order, following through with the non-linear structure of the game. However, family members are not guaranteed to stay safe and may die. This will impact the story.
Honestly, this seems like it’s quite a big change for the Far Cry formula, which has typically followed a very set and stable pattern for the nearly 20-year-old shooter series. Far Cry typically saw players needing to liberate a region from the clutches of some villain while being set in an open-world, but this sounds like it could bring a much needed change of pace from that traditional formula.
Far Cry 7 is apparently targeting a Fall 2025 launch, so we still have quite a long time before we will likely see any confirmed information from Ubisoft about the game. We can’t wait though, as we’ve been long fans of the Far Cry franchise here at The DZSH Group!
