I said a while back that there would never be another game like Titanfall 2, and I guess I was completely justified in saying that. EA has reportedly canceled a secret single-player sequel to Titanfall 2 alongside a planned mobile game.
Titanfall 2 was released in 2016 and was praised for its great level design, amazing voice acting, and satisfying movement and gunplay. Titanfall 2 was everything you could have ever wanted in a movement-based shooter and more.
Nobody had expected its single-player to be so riveting, but it certainly was. Coupled with its excellent multiplayer, Titanfall 2 was beloved by many. Fans demanded a sequel, but EA never delivered. Instead, it released Apex Legends—a free-to-play battle royale that’s technically set in the Titanfall universe.
Seven years after Titanfall 2, EA seems to be avoiding one of its best IPs like it’s the plague.
Titanfall May Never Get A Sequel At This Rate
The most recent news comes from a Bloomberg report that states that EA has canceled a secret single-player Titanfall game that was in development at Respawn. This marks the second time a Titanfall sequel was canceled. And that’s only what we know of. There may easily be several other times out there where a planned Titanfall game has been canceled.
Although Titanfall 2 was a major success critically, EA didn’t really consider it financially successful. Unfortunately, profits come before making fun games these days, so EA will likely never release a single-player Titanfall game when Apex Legends has produced $2 billion for the company.
EA continues to pour microtransactions into Apex Legends, which is what’s making the company so much money. All it has to do is produce a few skins and bundles, and bam: Millions in their pockets easy.
This seems to be the trend with big publishers these days: Produce games that simply make a quick buck. More and more, effort going into the game is going down and consumers are expected to fork up a pretty penny for each title.
Don’t even get me started on the state of Call of Duty right now…
