Dragon’s Dogma 2 Mystic Spearhand Build Guide

8 min read

The Mystic Spearhand is probably one of the best vocations you can pick to play and master in Dragon’s Dogma 2. With exciting attacks, a great combination of melee and magic, and plenty to master and level up, the mystic spearhand is at this point my favorite vocation yet.

Now, the although mystic spearhand is one of the more advanced hybrid vocations, you don’t actually have to wait too long to unlock it. In fact, you could probably unlock this vocation within the first few (5 or so) hours of gameplay.

The mystic spearhand uses a duospear, which is a special weapon that is used only by this vocation. It allows for the use of both magic and melee attacks, prioritizing offensive approaches to combat and more. It’s a very powerful one in large monster attacks as well, and is very effective in bolstering your party.

How to Unlock the Mystic Spearhand #

Unlocking mystic spearhand as a vocation requires you to have some interaction with the vocation Maistre, Sigurd.

Getting to Sigurd is going to take a bit of time, so here is what you need to do.

First, when you speak to captain Brant, accept a quest called monster culling. Once you’ve accepted this quest, you have three locations to head to. Finish up the three and head back to Brant to confirm the quest completion.

There’s two ways to get to Sigurd, and I’ll go through both in case certain things play out in your game differently.

The most common way is this: after the monster culling, you’re going to head to Melve again. There, it should be besieged by a gross dragon. Sigurd will be there to fight it so after the fight, go talk to him.

But, be warned that there is a chance you may miss him so here’s the way I did it. For some reason when I went to Melve, it didn’t work. The dragon fight didn’t happen. So I found a different way of doing it that is easier.

I went to Harve Village, next and once you’re in Harve, you’re going to have a quest to deal with some Saurians. The marker that has “II” written is where you can find Harve Village.

After that, you need to rest for maybe two days and then head back to Harve. It’ll once again be under siege by Saurians. After that, rest maybe one or two more days to be safe.

Then head to this building called the Coastal Hut. Inside you’ll find Sigurd just standing there. Talk to him and you’ll get access to the mystic spearhand vocation.

Best Mystic Spearhand Skills #

The mystic spearhand can be a very powerful vocation if you know what to do with it and can level it up quickly. For the most part, equipping this vocation means that you’re going to be going up close with the enemies, but it is effective at many ranges. It’s important to note that playing this vocation also means that you’re going to have to be fast and lethal.

Leveling up takes some time but I recommend just going around Vernworth or even Bhattal if you’re that far in and just fighting whatever monsters you see. If you can kill an ogre or cyclops or something of that caliber that’s even better for leveling up.

You’ll start to notice that you’re getting higher and higher in the vocation. This is not a super fast process so be patient.

Mystic spearhand weapon skills

Although there are plenty of skills to choose from, there were a few that I found were the absolute star of the show.

Firstly, we have the Dragoun’s Stabbe. This is an absolute must in my opinion to have on you when you’re using the Mystic Spearhand. This skill lets you traverse a long distance and deal a pretty awesome blow to your enemies. Plus, it can help you get a bit airborne so you can take out more pesky flying ones like the Harpies. Dragoun’s Foin is the more advanced version of this that will let you travel farther, so you definitely want to unlock it as fast as you can.

Skeidragon’s fangtooth is another great one that can deal a ton of damage in a short range. This one lets you leap up and then slam the spear down into the ground, causing a bit of a shockwave of damage to enemies around you.

Mirrour Vesture is an important one to use, as it prevents enemies from attacking you and any allies within range of a sort of bubble that you can make around yourself. It’s an essential one to use and can really change the way you play melee with this vocation. I would say that this one is a must to equip.

Humble Offringe is an excellent skill to use. This one forms a bubble that picks up an enemy within range and tosses it. You can pick up multiple small enemies and it’s great for getting rid of the more annoying enemies that pop up during a fight.

The other skills are also just as fine, but for me, I found that these four happened to be the most effective and delivered the best punch during combat, allowing for the Mystic Spearhand’s work to be done much better in a fight.

Mystic Spearhand Core Skills #

The mystic spearhead has a set of unlockable core skills as well, and you can get all of these. There is no limit on how many you can have. These are passively applied, which means that you don’t really need special buttons to apply the attacks or anything like that. I’ll just go through these briefly, since you can just have as many as you want.

core skills mystic spearhand

Twein Cut – An effective paced light attack that is not too slow but not too weak.  Used to open up Winding Cut combos as needed for medium sized targets that require more attacks.

Magike Cut – The heavy attack for Mystic Spearhand which will be often used on any flinched or downed targets.  As we will be mounting larger targets, this will be used quite frequently then as well on weak spots.

Redouted Bolt – A quick vocational action that allows us to flinch small targets and follow up with Quik Fot or Dragoun’s Stabbe to quickly engage smaller to medium targets.

Forbeding Bolt –  A better tool for larger targets or flying targets to reach and engage them directly.  Additionally, it should be weaved during attacking larger foes to limit their move speed and attack speed allowing you longer windows of punishment for you and your pawns.

Ferrene Bolt – A simple upgrade for the range of Redouted Bolt.

Scatering Bolt – Applies a snare after Foreding Bolt further slowing targets for longer windows to attack.

Quik Fot – A secondary means of gap closer and effective at reaching larger flying targets.  Can be used in conjunction with a follow up Dragoun’s Stabbe to reach and grab onto targets.  This technique takes some practice.  Timing along with other skills can be practiced with grounded targets.  Thus, this should be activated after Forbeding Bolt on larger targets as it will freeze them temporarily.  However on smaller targets, Redouted can be used.

Winding Cut – A windmill attack that is great on targets that are on the move or groups that are engaging in a pile.  A good use of stamina-free attacks that lets us adjust slightly.

Mystic Spearhand Best Augments #

Augments for mystic spearhand

Augments are a bit of a different grouping on their own. Not every vocation will have the same augments, but arguments you unlock from one vocation can be applied to another vocation. There are many augments you can pick to apply to the Mystic spearhand–you can also just stick to the augments that come with the mystic spearhead. However, it’s best to pick and choose from the other vocations in order to make the most effective and powerful build. This is going to take some time because it will require you to play through the other vocations as well. If you’re willing to take the time to do it, here are some good augments to apply to the Mystic Spearhand vocation:

  • Endurance (Archer Vocation Rank 4)
  • Lethality (Archer Vocation Rank 8)
  • Catalysis (Sorcerer Vocation Rank 8)
  • Sagacity (Sorcerer Vocation Rank 9)
  • Vitality (Warrior Vocation Rank 2)
  • Dominance (Warrior Vocation Rank 8)

Maister Ultimate Skill #

If you want to become a complete master in the mystic spearhead vocation, you can learn the maister’s ultimate ability to totally complete this vocation and make it even better. In order to do that, you have to go to Dragonsbreath Tower in Battahl, southeast of the capital Bakhattahl. Sigurd, who I mentioned earlier, will be at the tower. He’ll ask for help in defeating the dragon. Upon defeating the dragon, you’ll unlock the ultimate ability, which is wild furie. This ability lets you unleash a massive flurry of slashes and magic attacks that can be continued by pressing a button over and over.

Best Pawns to Use with Mystic Spearhand #

Hiring the right pawns for your party is an important thing to do, and it can really help you to have a balanced, diverse party that will support you as the mystic spearhead. Although you can realistically just pick any combination you want, I recommend you at least have a mage on your team.

Mages are great because they can heal, which is vital when you’re mainly slashing at your enemies. The Mage can also grant you elemental abilities, which lets you use more magic on your weaponry.

The archer or sorcerer are great, and can be swapped out. The reason being is that having someone perform ranged attacks is perfect for any party setup. They can support you by making sure you’re not getting attacked from above.

Finally, a warrior or fighter is a great pawn to have on your team as well. These melee vocations can support you as well by taking out other enemies aggressively, since it’s more like having a tank support on your team. It backs you up as the mystic spearhead.

Final Comments #

Overall, the mystic spearhead is probably one of the best vocations I’ve played around with in Dragon’s Dogma 2. It’s very exciting, powerful, and has a lot of attack range. It’s also effective and lethal. It’s important to maintain stamina, as you can drain that quickly with spamming some of these skills I mentioned earlier.

For the mystic spearhand as well, you want to find better weapons. Don’t worry so much about armor–it’s pretty limited for this vocation and the weapon is the thing that makes most of the difference. Save your money and get a good spear to use against your enemies. Offense is much more important for this vocation than defense is.
