Making decision is tough and the art of it stretches back all the way to childhood.

One day while I was talking to my sister who was asking me “How can I lose weight?” I replied “By the closing of the mouth.” My son was looking at me, baffled by my response. He thought I was sarcastic. But I was not!

I really meant to say close your mouth. It is a decision that only you can make. If a food is very fatty, high in calories, high in sugar, and simply bad for you, only you can make the decision to not to open your mouth and eat it. It is not an easy decision to make, I know.

It is the answer to all hard decisions and the answer to many of our addictions. Craving sugary foods and high carbohydrates is known as an addiction and should be treated as such. So, the answer to how we can close our mouths and say no to harmful food to our system is not to simply say no, but rather go backwards and work on our ability to make decisions.

The decision making process is an art that parents should start working on with their kids at a very young age. Parents should not say the regular phrase “Oh they are just kids,” “How can you ask a kid his opinion?” and rather encourage their kids to make decisions. They should start with giving them options until they reach a point where they can give options and master their decision making.

If we control our decisions and we educate ourselves on what is good and bad for us, then losing weight and quitting addictions should be much easier than it looks.

Happy decision making 😉
