Apple’s iOS 16 Beta 5 includes a feature that hasn’t been on the iPhone in some time: The battery percentage in the status bar at the top right of the screen.
Back in 2017, the new notched design for the iPhone X created a spacing issue that left little room for the battery status indicator. To counter the issue, Apple made it so that users would have to swipe down to access their battery percentage from the notifications shade. It’s been this way for all iPhones with this design since.
However, the latest version of the Apple iOS 16, Beta 5, shows the battery percentage as a number written inside of the battery icon. This way, enough space is left for the other information and Apple users won’t be left in the dark on what their battery percentage is sitting at.
A spokesperson for Apple did not confirm yet if the battery percentage will be included in the final version of iOS 16. The update is currently available as a developer and public beta, with the final version likely to launch in September, which is when Apple is expected to announce the new iPhone 14.
The battery percentage should be available in the public beta soon. If you currently use the developer beta, you just need to go to the Settings and navigate to Battery, where you toggle the Battery Percentage option so that you can see the number now.
