Meta’s number two executive and long-time member of the board Sheryl Sandberg is stepping down today, after she put a post on her Facebook page explaining the move.
Sandberg has been the company’s COO for almost a decade and a half, after leaving her job at Google back in 2008 to join Facebook’s team.
“When I took this job in 2008, I hoped I would be in this role for five years. Fourteen years later, it is time for me to write the next chapter of my life,” the former executive wrote on Facebook. As things stand she has not outlined any future business plans.
Zuckerberg spoke about her leaving the company later that day, stating that he has no plans to replace her in the company’s current structure.
“This role will be different from what Sheryl has done,” Zuckerberg stated. “It will be a more traditional COO role where Javi will be focused internally and operationally, building on his strong track record of making our execution more efficient and rigorous.” ‘Javi’- Javier Olivan- will take the job as the company’s new COO.
Sandberg was one of the core executives working in Facebook, being Zuckerberg’s No. 2.
“I think Meta has reached the point where it makes sense for our product and business groups to be more closely integrated, rather than having all the business and operations functions organized separately from our products,” Zuckerberg stated on the platform today.
