Destiny 2 season of the wish removes starter pack

Bungie has removed a new ‘Starter Pack’ DLC for Destiny 2 just a day after its release following complaints from players over its price.

The DLC was priced at $15 and included three exotic weapons, three cosmetics, and other materials like 125,000 Glimmer, 50 Enhancement Cores, 5 Enhancement Prisms and an Ascendant Shard.

The free-to-play looter-shooter is no stranger to DLCs and microtransactions, but players seemed to have been particularly irked by this. So much so that Bungie would later remove it.

The main complaints were that by giving new players—which is who the Starter Pack is aimed at—a pay-to-win advantage over other players. Some complained that even if it was a display of pay-to-win mechanics at play, the exotic weapons included were relatively weak and could be earned quite easily in-game for free.

Overall, players on social media seemed to be in agreement that the Starter Pack was overpriced and that it was essentially a rip off due to its lack of any real advantages for new players. Additionally, the Season Passes cost less than $15 and provide much more useful content than the Starter Pack does.

Bungie posted a message over on its official X account, explaining that the DLC was unpopular but did not mention things like the cost or items in the pack.

”Hey everyone, we launched Season of the Wish yesterday and have been monitoring the conversation around what you’ve been enjoying and what you haven’t. We’ll start things off with the Starter Pack, which is not something bringing joy.

”We’ve heard your concerns and agreed that there are other parts of Destiny 2 that new players should want to dive into first before chasing these Exotic weapons, cosmetics, and upgrade materials.”

Overall though, Destiny 2 is taking some hits elsewhere. Bungie recently announced layoffs at the company affecting as many as 100 employees. However, the game is still popular among its loyal player base and still does offer lots of content to go through despite its recent PC player count drops.
