Apple is now raising the price of its subscription services, including Apple TV+, Apple Music, and the Apple One bundle.
According to Apple, the rising cost of its subscriptions comes as a result of “increasing in licensing costs” for the music industry and states that its hiking Apple TV+ prices are in order after a “very low price” launch.
Apple TV+ has grown its offerings since it first launched back in 2019 at $4.99 monthly. It has been one of the cheapest streaming services until now.
The details on the pricing changes are below. They take effect today:
- Apple TV+ will be $6.99 a month, previously $4.99
- Apple Music will be $10.99 a month, previously $9.99
- Apple One will be $16.95 a month, previously $14.95
Apple One is a subscription that bundles Music, Apple TV+, Arcade, and iCloud+ and includes family packages. With the rising prices, the family packages are also seeing a price hike. Currently, the family package now costs $22.95. The Premier package, which adds more storage, News+, and Fitness+, will be $32.95 for families.
In a statement, an Apple spokesperson explained the decision to raise the subscription prices:
The subscription prices for Apple Music, Apple TV+, and Apple One will increase beginning today. The change to Apple Music is due to an increase in licensing costs, and in turn, artists and songwriters will earn more for the streaming of their music. We also continue to add innovative features that make Apple Music the world’s best listening experience. We introduced Apple TV+ at a very low price because we started with just a few shows and movies. Three years later, Apple TV+ is home to an extensive selection of award-winning and broadly acclaimed series, feature films, documentaries, and kids and family entertainment from the world’s most creative storytellers.
Apple is not the only company to raise its prices this year. Netflix also hiked its prices earlier this year. Disney+ and Hulu raised their prices as well. Netflix and Disney+ are also both introducing ad-based tiers, with the Netflix tier getting a November 3 release and the Disney+ tier getting a December 8 release.
However, rising prices is not just affecting the subscription world. In general, prices are going up for most consumer goods due to rising inflation and other issues.
