iRobot has announced its newest Roomba, The Roomba Combo j7+. It’s now the first Roomba to feature a two-in-one mop and vacuum feature to the product line. The new Roomba is based off of the current j7 model, but with the addition of its mopping functionality that gives it the “Combo” name.
With the two-in-one design, the Roomba can vacuum the floors and then utilize a mop pad to wipe the floors of your home. Once it’s done, users can change the bag and refill the water. Typically, these changes need to be made after 60 days of continuous use.
Product manager Praj Dhamorikar said that the plan was to ensure that the mop would never come into contact with soft surfaces. That’s why it puts the pad back away if it needs to move over carpeted surfaces. Dhamorikar also said that users should expect the device to perform as promised without micromanagement.
iRobot’s newest OS 5.0 includes integration with Siri and Alexa. It also comes with the ability to denote more clean zones for extra attention and it can avoid hazards better than before. With the new OS, the Roomba can be prevented from entering certain rooms. So, if you’ve got an important meeting, you won’t have to worry about your Roomba disturbing you.
iRobot is also ensuring consumers that their data is protected and that it will never be sold to third parties and that it’s secured a TÜV SÜD Cyber Security certification for its data hygiene.
For people that are eager to get their hands on the Roomba Combo j7+, it’s available for pre-order currently and will cost about $1,099 in the US. Shipments are set to begin on October 4.
