Walmart is entering the metaverse through Roblox

Retail giant Walmart has decided that it will now take a dive into the metaverse, launching two immersive online experiences through Roblox.

Roblox is a metaverse platform that has seen immense popularity over the past few years, especially with younger audiences.

Walmart said that it’s move is to target the next generation of customers, seeing as how COVID-19 made online shopping a more common and popular thing.

‘Walmart Land,’ as they’ve decided to name it, will feature a Netflix trivia experience with “Stranger Things” star Noah Schnapp, a virtual dressing room and a music festival with popular artists. Plus, Roblox players can buy virtual merch (verch) for avatars that match real items sold at Walmart stores.

The second experience will be called Walmart’s Universe of Play and it will reportedly offer immersive games that feature characters from iconic franchises like L.O.L. Surprise! and Paw Patrol.

It seems like Walmart’s main goal is to get Gen Z into the world of VR. Walmart Land’s Electric Fest will feature performances from Madison Beer and Kane Brown. The virtual dressing room will offer products from makeup and skincare brands from popular YouTubers and influencers.

William White, the chief marketing officer at Walmart, said that he knows customers are spending “loads of time” in Roblox.

Roblox began trading back in March 2021, with the company valued at $45 billion when it debuted on Wall Street.
