YouTube Shorts Monetization

YouTube’s monetization feature has made it one of the most lucrative platforms out there, with people all over the world creating content for millions of people to watch every day. YouTube introduced its new Shorts feature a few years ago, most likely to combat the popularity of TikTok’s short-form content. Now, YouTube Shorts is getting monetization as well.

Creators will need to obtain 10 million Shorts views over a 90-day period in order to be eligible for the monetization, in addition to 1,000 subscribers. 45 percent of the money generated from ads will go to YouTube Shorts, and the funds will be distributed to each creator based on their share of total Shorts views.

YouTube’s Chief Product Officer Neil Mohan said that this is “the first time real revenue sharing is being offered for short term video on any platform at scale.”

YouTube says at least 30 billion views from 1.5 billion users a month are Shorts views.

The YouTube Partner Program originally launched back in 2007. Over the last three years, YouTube says that it has paid creators, artists, and media companies more than $50 billion through the program..

YouTube is now adding a new tier to the Partner Program “to help creators start making money earlier in their journey.” This new tier will have a lower requirement to join and will give “easier access to fan funding features like super thanks, Super Chat, Super Stickers and channel memberships.”
